The path of designer’s self-discovery

Maristela Soares, founder of the MABISWIMWAER, moved from Brazil to London in 2017 to pursue her fashion career. It is her deepest wish to make people aware of the catastrophic consequences of fast-fashion, to heal our exploited Earth and to encourage consumers to choose conscientiously. In the next blog Maristela revealed to us how it all started and how  her vision of beatufil and preserved planet Earth blossomed in MABI

How my spiritual journey with MABI started and why it’s connected to our Mother Earth

By emphasizing the need for fairness and kindness to nature and other living beings, human development is gaining a new voice. We can’t be developed and satisfied unless our lives become reconnected and in balance with nature and Mother Earth.

I have always felt a strong connection with nature, looking for inspiration and joy in it, but also healing and peaceful moments with myself in this chaotic world.

And I was always asking myself are we living harmoniously with Mother Earth and giving to her as much as she gives us?

The Earth is our mother, nourishing and protecting us in every moment – giving us air to breathe, fresh water to drink, food to eat, and healing herbs to cure us when we are sick.

When we breathe with mindfulness, we can experience our interbeing with the Earth’s delicate atmosphere, with all the plants, and even with the sun.

Unfortunately, the effects of climate change that we are facing, are being felt on all continents across the world and are predicted to become more frequent and more intense in the coming decades.

These changes to the climate have the power to transform our world, affecting food and water supplies and our health. The bigger the problems, the more difficult and expensive it will be to solve them.

We need to change our way of thinking and seeing things. We need to realize that the Earth is not just our environment or something outside of us. Breathing with mindfulness and contemplating our body, we realize that we are the Earth and that our consciousness is also the consciousness of the Earth. Look around you – what you see is not your environment, it is you.

On my spiritual journey, I met magnificent people who motivated me to explore more deeply everything related to sustainability, preservation of our Mother Earth, energy, and spirituality.

At that time, I strongly felt that the utter peace and happiness of all humans lies in the effort to heal our exploited planet because just integrated with primordial nature we can be healthy and achieve a balanced life.

Following these thoughts, creating a MABI was a natural path of my deepest wish to make people aware of the catastrophic consequences of fast fashion. I desired to put all my energy and love for nature into one authentic and timeless expression that says: we are nature lovers and we will save the planet.

A great role in the development of the MABI was played by my spiritual guides and inspiring friends whose authenticity I want to show through my creations.

Travels around the world and destinations such as Ibiza, Brazil and Amazon influenced the shaping of my spiritual being and my sensibility as a designer. In these adventures, I discovered the natural beauties of our planet and for the first time felt the unbreakable power of connection between nature and humans.

I strongly believe that the right path to a balanced and happy life is one that nature directs. Despite the great challenges our environment is facing, we are here to make a change and to live conscious, respecting the wonders of our beautiful planet Earth again and again.

While staying in the Amazon, I had the opportunity to spend time with indigenous tribes and understand their way of life and connection with nature.

They live a nomadic life and do not know how to cultivate the land and raise domestic animals, as well as fruits and vegetables. To improve their quality of life and raise awareness about the importance of the authentic tribes of Amazon, we have launched a fundraising campaign on Instagram and we will strive to fight for their position and better living conditions.

In MABI we believe partnering with indigenous peoples offers one of the most socially responsible and highest-leverage opportunities to address the major drivers that impact the enormous Amazon. Small steps can turn into bigger steps and they can inspire others to make small changes too.

I would like to end this blog with one of the wisest and most accurate quotes that say:

“The movement to address climate change and preserve our planet is about something deeper than justice, it’s about solidarity. Human solidarity.”
